Clay
There are all kinds of clay to be
bought; I use both fine and coarse clay. Some of my figurines are
made out of surprise clay (marbre) or out of clay coloured by myself. They are
then fully coloured.
All objects are made by hand and are one
of a kind ceramic art pieces. All objects are signed
individually as proof of authenticity.
Technique
The creations are hollow; made out
of clay rolls or clay bars or
hollowed later on. The ceramic pedestals are also made out of rolls/bars or out of liquid
clay poured into malls.

fingers, plastic and wooden modeling tools, clay
knifes, mirettes, brayer, straws, loomer, skewers, clay extrusion gun, even
a tooth brush can be used. Just have a look in your
kitchen drawers...

Firing/Art
out of the oven. The
ceramic animals are
fired in an electrical kiln, with use of a computer. The
first, bisque, firing is at about 980°C. It makes the
clay strong enough for the decoration and the (under)
glazes.
The object will be fired again at a temperature between
1050 and 1170°C
(earthenware); but
most of the creations will be fired at even
higher temperatures (stoneware (1250°C), it then
becomes watertight
and has more strength), with the decoration already
on it.

Glazes
and slips
With
(under) glazes, pigments and/or slips (in the beginning)
my creations receive
their ultimate colour and character. To obtain this
brushes, spunge or an airbrush gun are used, sometimes several
layers are necessary. The paint/colour can be used
on the clay sculpture, whether it is wet, leather hard or dry, or on a piece already
fired (biscuit). Now and then I choose to use
special acrylic paint (for ceramics) as a finishing touch.
